medical and veterinary professionals evaluate progress in this program against hydatidosis taking place for nearly three decades in the province of Black River and will be trained under the XI Course on Epidemiology, Diagnosis and Treatment of hydatidosis.
The equinocococcis cystic hydatidosis is a zoonotic disease caused by a tapeworm, "Echinococcus granulosus". The parasite requires two hosts mammals to complete their life cycle: the adult, which develops in the intestines of dogs and other carnivores, and larval development of which is in the form of cysts in the viscera of hoofed animals, especially sheep and goats and also man.
Since 1998 the Ministry of Health implemented new strategies for diagnosis and treatment of zoonotic disease most prevalent in Argentina and other South American countries. These strategies are based on early diagnosis in the school population with ultrasound and treatment based on the use of drugs such as albendazole, avoiding surgical interventions to a minimum. Built in 2009 to the National Standards for Control of hydatidosis. Among other strategies, in the same year the province launched a project to control through the use of the EG95 vaccine against ovine hydatidosis, extending the possibilities of cutting the transmission cycle.
